Collections

The Unlocking North East Jewish Heritage project has worked alongside regional and national partners, as well as members of local Jewish communities, in order to identify collections and other material that tells the story of the Jewish history of the region.

Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums 

Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM) is a regional museum, art gallery and archives service. TWAM manages nine museums and galleries across Tyneside and the Archives for Tyne and Wear. 

TWAM is supported by the four local authorities in Tyneside and Newcastle University. TWAM is also a National Portfolio Organisation funded by Arts Council England. 

 

TWAM holds collections of international importance in archives, art, science and technology, archaeology, military and social history, fashion and natural sciences.

Teesside Archives 

Teesside Archives collects, catalogues, and preserves records and documents relating to Middlesbrough, Stockton, Hartlepool, and Redcar & Cleveland, and makes them available for research. 

Teesside Archives also has a research service where you can get help with local history enquiries, for example the history of a business or a building.

Yorkshire and North East Film Archive 

The Yorkshire and North East Film Archives work to collect, preserve, and make the regions’ screen heritage accessible for everyone. The Archives hold over 70,000 items of original film, video tape, and born-digital material in their collections.

Jewish cemetery photographic survey on Flickr

A photographic survey of Jewish cemeteries in the North East was undertaken by Peter Gatoff in 2012. These images were indexed and uploaded to Flickr as part of the Lahav Jewish Heritage project (a project funded by a bequest to Newcastle City Council by the Lahav Marital Trust in memory of Ron and Kath Lahav). You can access these images using the links below.
